DESCRIPTION: The Model 4040 and Model 4080 intercom systems are used where there is a requirement for single or multiple operator stations and multiple remote stations. The system allows for each operator station to communicate with any of the remote stations. The Model 4040 and Model 4080 intercom systems provide high quality and hands free voice switched communications with a maximum of two or four operator control stations and a maximum of four to eight remote locations, respectively. Each Model 4040 and Model 4080 operator console is an integrated assembly consisting of an operator microphone and speaker along with the intercom amplifier. The Model 4040 intercom system requires the use of a 4240 audio switcher and the Model 4080 requires the use of a 4480 audio switcher. The audio switcher is used to control the various functions of all the operator control and remote stations.
The Model 4240 audio
switcher can accommodate from one to two Model 4040 operator consoles and
from one to four remote stations. The Model 4480 Audio Switcher can
accommodate from one to four Model 4080 operator stations and from one to
eight remote stations.
Seven switches are provided on the front of the Model 4040 console and eleven switches on the Model 4080. The functions are a STANDBY switch, a MANUAL switch, a HOLD switch and the rest are the remote station switches. The STANDBY switch places the console in the standby mode where there is neither incoming nor outgoing communications. The remote call signal is still active in this mode. The MANUAL switch is a push to talk switch that allows the operator to override incoming noise or communications. The HOLD switch places the console in the standby mode and places a selected remote station on hold. The LED immediately above the remote station switch blinks indicating it is on hold.
During normal operation, the operator console(s) are in standby mode. The operator can receive audible and LED indication of a customer waiting. When a remote call button is depressed, a 0.6 second tone is produced on the operator console and the call LED flashes for the station calling in. The operator pushes the specific remote station switch and the operator and customer communicate in a hands free-voice switched mode. Two LED's are provided for each remote select switch. The LED immediately above the remote switch gives indication on the console status with the remote. There are three conditions:
The upper LED indicates system status. When an operator depresses a remote switch, both LED's illuminate on that operator's console. The upper LED will illuminate on the other consoles in the system. This tells other operators which remotes are busy. In addition, there is one LED above the STANDBY Switch that illuminates whenever the system is in standby and both the incoming and outgoing audio is switched off. Each operator console is supplied with a 12 foot pre-fabricated cable assembly (PN 813-8011) for connection to the audio switcher requiring no field terminations. The operator console receives power from and communicates with the audio switcher. Field wiring to the remote stations is terminated at the audio switcher. The audio switcher can be mounted remote from the operator consoles. A mute input is available on the audio switcher for each remote station for use in banking pneumatic tube applications. A remote contact closure input from the pneumatic tube system will temporarily mute the remote microphone for the period of time the contact closure is activated. This feature eliminates the pneumatic tube background noise from triggering the remote microphone and distracting the operator.
